Fitting Guide
A comfortable bra can make a huge difference in your day. From annoying adjustments to painful straps, ill-fitting bras can cause a lot of discomfort and even harm your posture and skin.
That’s why it’s important to find the perfect fit. Don’t rush to get rid of your entire bra collection just yet! We have some tips to help you improve the fit of your current bras and make them more comfortable.
COMMON FIT ISSUES AND THEIR SOLUTION
Straps That Slip Off
Sometimes a small adjustment can make a big difference in the fit of your bra. First, try tightening your straps and moving to a tighter hook. If your straps still dig or fall off, try a racerback style. If your underwire is sliding up, your band may be the wrong fit – remeasure to ensure it’s the right size.
An Underwire That Pokes or Digs
If your bra digs into your side, under your breasts, or elsewhere, it may be the wrong size or style. Get remeasured and try an unstructured or wireless bra if needed. If you prefer wired bras, try a style with padded wires for comfort. If the underwire is sliding up, your band may be the wrong size – get remeasured.
A Band That Rides Up
To ensure a well-fitting bra band, make sure it’s parallel to the ground and doesn’t ride up. If it’s not snug, adjust it to be tighter. If it’s already on the tightest hooks, check the straps – if they’re too tight, loosen them to see if that helps.
Cups That Gape
To fix this issue, adjust your bra straps to lift and hold the cups in place. If that doesn’t work, try a smaller cup size or a different bra style that fits your breast shape better. Always make sure to double-check your size since everyone’s body is unique and can change over time.
Straps That Dig In
If your bra straps are digging into your shoulders, it’s likely due to a loose band, which puts pressure on the straps. Try tightening the band by a hook or two. Then, adjust the straps to a comfortable position, starting with the adjustor in the middle of the strap. If the digging persists, consider remeasuring to find your correct size.
Cups That Cause Spillage
Breast spillage from your bra cups can be painful and uncomfortable. Check if your band is too tight and move it to a looser hook if needed. If that doesn’t help, get remeasured to find a better size.
A Frame That Won’t Sit Flat
If the fabric between the cups of your bra doesn’t sit flat, adjust your band to a looser hook or try a larger cup size. If the problem persists, a front-close style may help. If your underwire is sliding up, your band may be the wrong size – get remeasured.
Sister Sizing
Sister sizing is when you wear different band sizes with the same cup volume. For example, if a 34C is too tight in the band, but the cups fit well, you should try a 36B. Keep in mind that going up a band size means going down a cup size and vice versa.
How Does Bra Sister Sizing Work?
Bra sizing involves matching a cup volume and band length to find the right fit. For instance, a 38C refers to a cup volume named “C” combined with a band length of 38. The same cup volume can be paired with different band sizes, creating sister sizes. To adjust your bra size, you can use sister sizing by going up or down a band size and up or down a cup size accordingly. To sister size down, you can choose a band size lower and a cup letter higher, while to sister size up, you can choose a band size higher and a cup letter lower than your current bra.
How Should Underwear Fit?
The fabric in this region must sit firmly against your body without any creasing or sagging. It should be snug but not overly tight. The seam, if present, should be visible from the front.
Waistband
The waistband of your underwear should fit comfortably and stay in place without bunching, rolling, or digging into your skin.
Legs
Ensure the leg holes have a smooth, uniform shape and don’t fit too tightly, causing marks on the skin.
Buttocks
Underwear should provide even and symmetrical coverage of the buttocks, although the specifics may vary depending on the style. If the underwear rides up, consider trying a bigger size.
